SCAM!!! Don't care what those other "users" are saying. There's nobody in jail that would call my 10 year old's UNKNOWN cell #. NEVER answer these calls and for crying out loud, NEVER accept a collect call without CLEAR NAME of who is calling.

I received 2 calls late eve around 1140pm from this number. I missed both calls because I didn't have my cell phone with me. After doing google search, found possibility of call from jail. Did google+ location search of my partner who was visiting Tacoma, we live in CA... and sure enough it placed him in a police building. I had my niece in Kent call the jail then post bail for my partner. This seems to be a universal number from jail facilities according to other comments on this site.

This is NOT a scam. Someone is trying to call you from jail. If you have friends and relatives traveling or can't locate a loved one - answer the call. It might be them. I know someone who sat in jail for weeks because his family would not answer the call. This is a universal number used by Jails across the country. Unfortunately, my son has called me from this number and we're in Georgia. He was locked up for something petty after following a guy I told him not to hang around with,.

Prisoners don't have rights! The lost those when they committed their crime. They are harassing us! Their phone calls should be watched so that they don't get away with this! What creeps!!!

I received a call at 9 pm and 12:30am last night! It is automated and sounds just like if someone is calling you collect. The system says you have a "free" collect call from (than someones name in their voice) from (a specific correctional facility). It asks you to press 1 to accept. Obviously I didn't because its obvious this is a scam. The automated system identifies itself as a call place on behalf of inmates in facilities. I hung up the phone and looked the number up online and have noticed that this place is calling lots of people with same scam and calling at all hours of the night. I also called the number back and there you find out you can be charged $10.00 right away for answering the phone period and 5.00 for every minute you stay on the phone and it goes on about entering funds into accounts. You can't talk to a live human being. Your option is to only deposit money into funds. I finally found a selection to block your number from calls from inmates but it hasn't work as I received another call just a minute ago. I have called my phone provider to get the number blocked but I cant have calls like this at all hours of night. I work at 3:30am. What really bothers me is my number is a private number. Only 4 people have it and none of my utilities have it and I've never used it online. I made my telephone provider away I may receive charges just for picking up the phone even though I didn't accept the call. please make this stop. People have become victims.

Inmate Call - Not A Scam  -  Jul 27, 2013 10:56 AM

Any call from this number comes an inmate at a correctional facility. You should always answer the call to see if it is someone that you know. This call is not a scam, it is a legitimate company. If you want to know more about them, call the number back or look them up on the internet using the info at the end of this comment. I copied and pasted the majority of what is in this comment directly from the Securus website. I do not work for them. I just had the idea to go there and find out who they really are and post it here so that all of you can become more knowledgeable. I personally do not like the prices that Securus Technologies charges for the inmate calls, but it is what it is and Securus Technologies is not the only Correctional Phone Service out there. There are plenty more. They not only provide the phone service, but they also provide the equipment to record all of the calls in case there is something that they or you say that can be used against them. The correctional facility also gets a percentage of every dollar spent. If you go to www.securustech.net, click on the tab for Correctional Staff. There is advertising to get more business from more jails. Interesting. A recording gives the inmate a chance to speak their name so that you can hear it and know who is calling you from jail. The recording also tells you in the first sentence which facility that the inmate is calling from, but you have answer the call to hear it. If the call goes to voice mail, then the first part of the recording is cut off and most likely you will never hear or know which jail the call is coming from or the name of the person who is calling. The majority of these calls are collect. If you do not want to accept the call, you do not have to and you will not be charged if you do not press 1 to accept the call. Some of the calls from this number are not collect calls. Even if the inmate has money in their account and uses that money to make calls or purchase phone cards, the call is still routed through and recorded by the equipment that Securus Technologies, Inc. provides to the jail with their service. So you may be getting a 'free' call from an inmate in jail. Some inmates incorrectly dial the phone number that they are trying to reach or do not remember the number of the person that they want to call. They do not have access to their belongings, including their cell phones, and probably do not remember everyone's phone number. So it is very possible that it is a wrong number. If you want to block it, follow the instructions at the end of this comment or call the number below. It is not very difficult. If you don't understand the instructions, call the number and someone will help you to do it. Securus Technologies, Inc. provides the inmate telephone service to more than 2,200 correctional facilities in the USA and Canada. Correctional Billing Services is a division of Securus that provides Customer Service to the called parties. An inmate can contact family and friends by calling collect from inmate telephones in the jail. Family and friends must be willing to accept the charges. Inmates cannot receive incoming telephone calls and employees are not permitted to deliver personal messages to inmates. You may block phone calls from inmates by pressing '6' when you are called by an inmate. We do not remove blocks on phones per inmate request. Only the person that is on the receiving end of the blocked phone number can remove it by calling Customer Service at Correctional Billing Services (CBS) at 1-800-844-6591. If you are having trouble receiving calls from an inmate at any Jail/Prison/Detention Center Facility, and would like to request a BLOCK on your phone, or have a question about how to setup a DIRECT BILL or PREPAID COLLECT account, please contact Correctional Billing Services(CBS). CBS is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They can be contacted for: Any billing issues for the end users. For Block/Unblock of phone numbers. Any rate issues.
