PRA has been calling us for more than 5 years attempting to collect a debt from 15 years ago. I use the following method to stop them, although it takes quite a few attempts but eventually they stop. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ENGAGE THEM IN ANY WAY. ANY CONVERSATION LEADS TO MORE CALLS.
1) Keep a list of the various numbers and states they are calling from.
2) Buy a coaches sports whistle. They cost about $5.00. Keep it handy by the phone.
3) When you recognize the number on caller id, grab your whistle and BLOW LIKE HELL into the mouthpiece. My husband thinks an air horn would be more effective since I have asthma.
This method effectively shocks the caller intro yanking off their head set and running to their supervisor with a blown out ear drum. After they receive enough complaints by their associates, the number is removed from the roster.
The trick is, be consistent and blow every call every time. This method has worked for me, they stopped calling for over a year. The calls just started again after the new year so I've got my whistle handy again.
Good luck!

OMG Cindee, that's a great idea. That's much better than my "pick up the phone and immediately hang up" approach!

As far as I'm concerned they're lowere than Pond Scum. They sued me in 2008, but it was dismissed as past the Statute of Limitations date. I am STILL getting calls & mail from them in 2010. The last girl I talked to there, said they know they "can't do anything legal to me", but I still owe the money. I told her I do not owe & will not pay anything on this acct., especially since they now say I owe $10,000. My lawyer told me to turn them in to our State Attorney General's Office as harrassment.

Just another bottom-dweller collection agency fishing for folks that owe unrecoverable, out of date debts.
The Gov't needs to shut these folks down.
Consumer BEWARE!!!

This collection agency has been calling my number for over a year and a half looking for Charity Compton. I wish this person would pay her bills, so they will leave me alone! I have talked to several people at that company take this number out of it's data bank, because I am not the one they are looking for, they say they will but lie, and they have called from other numbers, but it's the same person they are looking for!

This company whoever they are, constantly call my son's cell phone.....they have a variety of #'s and are always asking for a certain person.....Kelsey Mathis??? (they say it so garbled, hard to understand). They are very annoying and if son's voice mail clicks in, then there is a message left.....Within the last 2 weeks, he got 6 calls and 4 of them from different #'s asking for the same person - this is a recording, not a real person!!!

They call home and work numerous times a day and never leave a message. Use umpteen different numbers when calling, several different area codes in addition to multiple 1-800 numbers.

Bottom scooper who try to collect long past Statute of Limitation debts. Ignore them, hang up on them but never talk to them. Block their numbers one by one and in the end they lose.
