NJ.com is reporting that an Ex-Verizon employee, Joseph Vaccarelli, allegedly hacked into customer accounts and made calls to 1-900 numbers, racking up more than $220,000 in charges.
While employed at the phone company, Vaccarelli allegedly made about 5,000 chat line calls, using 45,000 minutes of call time for 942 Verizon customers in 30 Bergen County municipalities.

A new rule passed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) promises to help cut down on the number of pre-recorded telephone solicitations that consumers receive.  Starting in September, 2008 it will be illegal for telemarketers to call you with pre-recorded messages, also called RoboCalling, without your written permission.
